Kathmandu: Nepal Communist Party (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has stated that any opposition to the democratic republic is an act against the people. Speaking at a training program for ward chairpersons of Bagmati Province elected from the UML, Pokharel emphasized that defending the republic is essential to safeguarding the sovereignty of the people.

“Activities against the democratic republic are activities against the people,” Pokharel said, urging the entire party to remain united in countering such efforts. He stressed the need for public awareness campaigns highlighting the importance of the republic and its link to people’s sovereignty.

Pokharel also announced that the UML will mark Republic Day as a special celebration, encouraging the general public to participate actively. The party plans to organize a variety of programs to observe the day as a national festival.
